Watertown Wolves News Release

The last time the Wolves came to Dayton they won in overtime. The Wolves split their last two home games with Demonz. Was it Dayton's turn to win again?

Watertown would draw first blood with seven minutes left in the period with a power play goal scored by Phil Bronner on assists from Justin Alonzo and Justin MacDonald. The previous match up saw a lot of tension between these two teams, it looked like that tension was still there when a Dayton player got tangled up with Watertown goalie Jo St. Pierre. Dayton outshot the Wolves 13-12 in the period but failed to find success on any of their shots. Two diving saves from Jo St. Pierre helped prevent their scoring opportunities as well.

The second period saw a lot of action. Robert Vanwysberghe tied the game up 3 and-a-half minutes into the period with assists from Jared Hick and Ahmed Mahfouz. Cody Dion turned right back around for the Wolves scoring 3 seconds later in his first game for Watertown with assists from Justin Alonzo and Lucas LaBelle. 2 minutes and 30 seconds later Dayton would tie the game again as a shot from Mark Rivera deflects off Jo St. Pierre's skate and inches over the line for the official to call it a goal. Dean Yakura and Ryan Griffiths were credited with the assists on Rivera's goal. Dylan O'Neil and new wolf Matt Wray helped Corey Evelyn score the goal to put Watertown back in the lead at the 9 and-a-half minute mark making the score 2-3. Dayton refused to let Watertown break away with any commanding lead this time. Shaun Fisher tied the game again with a power play goal on assists from Brian Marks and Ahmed Mahfouz with 8 minutes left in the period. Cody Dion would get his second goal of the game and bring Watertown back in the lead on assists from Lucas LaBelle and Justin Alonzo. Watertown edged out Dayton on the shot count 16-13 by the end of the period.

Dayton failed to capitalize on their first power play of the third period. Robert Vanwysberghe would again tie the game on Dayton's second power play on assists from Shaun Fisher and Matthew Kinsella. Dayton dominated the shot count 16-10 and the period ended tied. This game went into overtime.

Dayton blitzed the Watertown goal; each of their 3 players put a shot on Jo St. Pierre to no avail. There ferocity caused the stick to be knocked out of the goaltender's hand making the officials stop play. When play resumed, history repeated itself and Watertown won. Justin Alonzo and Aaron Atwell assisted Justin MacDonald on the winning goal. 3 stars of the game went to Justin MacDonald, Robert Vanwysberghe, and Cody Dion respectively

The Wolves are back in action Friday night against the Danville Dashers at the Palmer Arena. The puck drops at 7:05 CST, 8:05 EST.
