Whalers Defeat Battalion

By: Nick Magoulas

It's only a couple of weeks before Christmas, but the Whalers decided to give the Danbury fans an early present Friday night at the Danbury Ice Arena. Jordan Ciccarello had two goals and an assist, Tim Richter had two goals and an assist and Mike Brown made 29 saves as the Whalers defeated the Berkshire Battalion 4-3.

In the first period Vadim Guskov got the scoring started with his 6th goal of the season on a beautiful centering feed from Tyler Prendergast to give the Battalion the 1-0 lead. Jordan Ciccarello tied the game for Danbury just forty-four seconds later with his 3rd of the season on a one time blast from the point off a pretty pass from Tim Richter. Danbury out shot Berkshire 17-7 through the opening twenty.

The Battalion took the lead in the second period thanks to the 8th of the season and 2nd of the game from Vadim Guskov. The Berkshire forward collected the loose puck in front of the Danbury net and sent a backhand shot past a sprawling Mike Brown to make it 2-1. Just nine seconds later the Battalion extended their lead on a wrap around goal from Michael Kaselouskas who was celebrating his 25th birthday. It was the 4th of the season for Kaselouskas and gave the visitors a 3-1 advantage despite being out shot substantially. Tim Richter made it a one goal game once again with a power play goal at the 13:36 mark, re-directing a Jordan Ciccarello shot past Battalion goalie Louie George for his 8th of the season. The Whalers generated tremendous offensive zone pressure for the remainder of the second, but were unable to get the tying goal.

The home was able to tie the game in the the third period thanks to the 2nd of the game and 4th of the season from Jordan Ciccarello. Brett Liscomb made a nice feed back to the point where Ciccarello fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of George to knot things up at 3-3. Then at 14:21 of the third Tim Richter gave the Whalers the lead on the power play with his 2nd of the game and 9th of the season. Richter was the beneficiary of a perfect pass to the slot by Brett Liscomb which allowed Richter to move in and beat George to the blocker side to make it 4-3 Danbury. The Battalion had a few chances in the final minutes to tie things back up, yet weren't able to get it past Mike Brown and the Whalers defense.

Game Notes:

Danbury out shot Berkshire 42-32... Louie George made 37 saves in the defeat... These two teams are back at tomorrow night in Berkshire with a 7:35 scheduled face-off.

Darge's Overtime Goal Leads Dashers to a 5-4 Win Over Wolves

By Easton Hoskins

The Watertown Wolves came to town to take on our Danville Dashers this evening, Friday, December 12. The Dashers dominated the 1st four minutes of the game making Jo St. Pierre stop six quick shots. However, on the Wolves first series in the Dasher zone found themselves on the board off put back by Cody Dion. Then, five minutes later in the first the Dashers failed on a rush out of the zone and Justin Macdonald made them pay for it on a wrap-around goal he pushed past Matt Anthony to put the Wolves up 2-0. In the post goal celebration, Justin Macdonald earned himself a roughing penalty which resulted in Justin Brausen cashing in on the ensuing power play to cut the Wolves lead to 2-1. Just after the Brausen goal, the Wolves made it 3-1 as Phil Brooner taped on past Anthony off a feed from Justin Macdonald. The Wolves took a 3-1 lead into the locker room.

The second period started off with a flash, just a couple minutes in the period, Justin Brausen and Dan Turgeon did a little give a go the found Brausen open in front and he buried one through the five-hole of St. Pierre. Just after that goal, Brausen buried a second goal past through the five-hole of St. Pierre to knot things up at three a piece. The Wolves took the lead once again late in the period as they were on the power play, and a penalty was coming; Justin Macdonald scored his second of the contest to give the Wolves the 4-3 lead they took in to locker room after the second period. After the period was over a big scrap broke out after a Wolves player took a late shot on Matt Anthony after the horn sounded. The results of that scrap were a five-minute major for roughing going to Phil Bronner, a four minute double-minor going to Lucas LeBelle for roughing, and a two minute minor for roughing going to the Dashers Clint Atkinson.

The Dashers trailed 4-3 entering the third and on the four on three power play to start the period Wehebe Darge tipped one in past Jo St. Pierre and tied the game at four. Then, following the goal St. Pierre swatted at the puck and sent it flying right at Head Official Paul Jene. That earned him a 2 minute unsportsman like conduct penalty. Then after arguing he got himself ejected which brought in Jesse Chenard off the bench cold. The Dashers took advantage of the cold goalie and Wehebe Darge scored his second of the night, and the game winner on the short side of Chenard. The Dashers won 5-4 and will take on these same Watertown Wolves tomorrow evening at 7:05p.m.
