
Wolfe, Blazers Shutout Rayz 3-0

Jason Wolfe made 30 saves for his first shutout of the season on Saturday Night as the Corpus Christi Rayz were blanked 3-0 by the Oklahoma City Blazers in the only meeting of the season. The Rayz had chances all night and played evenly with the blazers for the most part, but three special teams goals by Oklahoma City were the difference. Corpus Christi fell to 14-17-4 on the year heading into the All-Star break. The Rayz return to the American Bank Center on Friday, January 18th at 7:05pm when they host the Austin Ice Bats on 80's Night, presented by CPL Retail Energy. Individual tickets are on sale now. The Blazers got the only goal of the first period on a power play. Alex Lalonde slammed home a rebound from the right edge of the crease at 10:43 to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead. The goal was the only first period goal for the Rayz or their opponents in the third game of the week. The Blazers outshot the Rayz 13-11 in the period.
The Blazers added a power play goal in the second period to increase their lead to 2-0. Mike Burgoyne notched his 16th goal and 39th points to up the lead in CHL defensemen scoring at 8:20 with a wrist shot from the right edge of the slot. The Rayz continued to get chances on Blazers netminder Jason Wolfe, but could not solve the netminder and went to the third trailing 2-0. The Blazers outshot the Rayz 11-9 in the period.
Dallas Flaman scored a shorthanded goal 26 seconds into the third period to cap the scoring. The Rayz had chances in the third including a two-man advantage for over a minute, but could nto solve Wolfe, who closed the door for the shutout victory.
Jason Tapp made 30 saves on 33 shots and fell to 14-14-3. Wolfe made 30 saves on 30 shots, improving to 11-8-2. The Rayz went 0-5 on the power play, and the Blazers were 2-3. The Blazers outshot the Rayz 33-30.
Corpus Christi will return to the American Bank Center following the All-Star break on Friday, January 18th when they host the Austin Ice Bats on 80's Night, presented by CPL Retail Energy.
