
Minard Leads Scorpions To Victory

[HIDALGO, Tex.]-The Scorpions finished off their Texas road trip with a 4-2 win over Rio Grande Valley Saturday night. The win gave the Scorps their sixth in a row and moved them to within four points of first place.
After a scoreless first period, offense took over in the second period. Rio Grande Valley took the lead when Rob Voltera pushed a rebound over the pads of Mike Minard at the 2:36 mark.
The Scorpions countered three minutes later as Kevin Harvey stole the puck at center ice and carried it into the offensive zone. Harvey dropped the pass to Ross McCain who rang a snap shot into the back of the net tying the game at one.
New Mexico took the lead for the first time when Konrad Reeder's shot was blocked, but landed on the stick of Mitch Stephens. Stephens threw the puck towards the net and scored, giving the Scorps their first lead of the game.
Less than a minute later the Killer Bees came back with another rebound goal. Robin Big Snake put the pick in the net for the second time this season knotting the game at two.
For the second time in the period the Scorps would come back and grab the lead. Chris Robertson's wrist shot deflected of goalie David Lemanowicz's glove and into the net. New Mexico took the 3-2 lead into the locker room after two periods.
New Mexico returns home for a pair of weekend games starting on Friday, January 18th. When the Scorpions take the ice versus Odessa, they will wear specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the American Cancer Society.
On Saturday, January 19th the Special Olympics will be recognized when the Scorpions host Wichita. The first 1,500 children inside the Santa Ana Star Center receive a Jr. Jersey courtesy of Peoples Mortgage. Prior to the game, the New Mexico Ice Holes will play the Media at 4 p.m. to benefit New Mexico Special Olympics. Fans holding a ticket for the Scorps game get in free to the Ice Holes charity game.
