Bucks Lose Power, Game To Mudbugs 6-2

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 6-2 Saturday night in front of 5,008 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center.

The loss snaps the Bucks two game winning streak, and drops them to 26-9-2 (54 points), and keeps Terry Ruskowski at 449 career coaching victories.

The Mudbugs, who won their franchise record 13th game in a row, came out and scored four goals in the first period to lead the Bucks 4-1.

Bossier took a 1-0 just 2:30 into the period as Jason Basile scored from the left crease past Bucks goaltender Kevin Beech. The Mudbugs made it 2-0 at the 4:51 mark of the first when Justin Atkins scored from the side of Beech.

Bossier increased their lead to 3-0 at the 8:30 mark as Tyrell Lucas scored past Beech from the slot.

The Bucks cut the lead to 3-1 Mudbugs when James Hiebert broke free past the Bossier defense and scored a shorthanded goal past ‘Bugs goaltender Ken Carroll. The goal was Laredo's league-leading 11th shorthanded tally of the season, and Hiebert's 19th goal of the season. Serge Dube picked up the assist.

The Mudbugs made 4-1 at 13:44 when Chris Brassard picked up a five-on-three power-play goal from the left circle past Beech.

After that goal Beech was pulled in favor of John Ceci. Beech stopped just two of six shots he faced in the period.

Bossier outshot Laredo (16-4 at home) in the first 20 minutes 9-6.

The second between the Bucks and the Mudbugs saw pretty much everything.

With 10:23 left in the period the power went out at the LEC, forcing a seven minute delay while the officials waited to see if it could be fixed. The game resumed without some lights working,half of the scoreboards, public address system, and in-arena music.

With the fans in the LEC without music they were creative in starting cheers, and clapping to the beat of "Carwash" several times.

Just after the power went out Kevin Cooper scored from the right side of the crease past Ceci making it 5-1 Mudbugs.

With seven seconds left in the period Laredo's Alex Penner hit Elias Godoy from behind into the boards, with Penner then jumping on Godoy and hitting him several times. Penner was ejected.

After the ensuing face off Steve Simoes and Neil Poulsen fought, with both players being sent off the ice. After the fight fans threw corn onto the ice, which delayed the game for a couple more minutes.

Just 58 seconds into the third period Elias Godoy scored from the right crease past Ceci making it 6-1 Mudbugs.

Laredo's Jeff Bes scored his 24th goal of the season on the power-play with 2:22 remaining.

Carroll stopped 23 of 25 Bucks shots to pick up the win.

After tonight's game the Bucks will be off until next Friday when they travel to Oklahoma City, and Austin on Saturday, before hosting Corpus Christi on Sunday January 20th.
