Wolf Pack weekly

March 21, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Connecticut Whale News Release

The Wolf Pack won two out of their three games this past week, clinching a Calder Cup playoff spot for the ninth consecutive year after Saturday's win over Norfolk. The week started out well, when the Pack broke their three game losing streak with a triumphant 8-2 win in Philadelphia on Wednesday. Brad "Shooter" Smyth scored five points (2 g, 3 a) in his first game with Hartford in nearly four years and broke the team's all-time points record with 348 career points, which was previously held by assistant coach Ken Gernander with 347. In fact, by week's end, Smyth had netted eight points in just three games with the Pack. Then on Friday, the Pack had a disappointing 3-2 loss to the Admirals in Norfolk, once again facing offensive difficulties despite 36 attempted shots. However, in a rematch with Norfolk the next night, the Pack came from behind for a 5-4 victory over the Admirals, led by Pack center Alexandre Giroux, who netted the game-winning goal, completing his first hat-trick of the season.
