Abbotsford Heat News Release
Milwaukee, WI -The Milwaukee Admirals got 23 saves from goalie Pekka Rinne and shutout the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights 1-0 on Monday night at the Bradley Center. The loss snapped the Knights' five-game winning streak and their five-game road win streak.
The Admirals opened the scoring at 8:36 of the first period. Darren Haydar brought the puck down the right wing and dropped a pass back in the slot to Simon Gamache who snapped a shot past Curtis McElhinney. The Admirals had four powerplays in the first period, but the Knights stopped each one and went to the dressing room trailing just 1-0.
The Knights enjoyed the better of the powerplays in the second period with three man advantages. Still, they were unable to dent Rinne.
The Knights were outshot 14-7 in the third period and the only shot to beat Rinne was a slapper from Tim Hambly that hit the post and bounced away. The game marked the first time the Knights had been shut out since a 2-0 loss at Peoria on November 4th. It was just their third shutout loss this season.
The Knights are now 32-26-2-8. They return home for the first of four straight games at the Civic when they host the Houston Aeros on Thursday, March 23rd at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, they'll welcome the Peoria Rivermen for a 7:00 p.m. start. That game is also Military Appreciation Night. Complimentary tickets to the game are available at Nextel stores in Omaha, Bellevue and Lincoln and at Nextel's offices on 143rd Street in Omaha. Nextel will set up a phone bank so that families can call loved ones around the globe. The Red Cross will offer its Vidi-Connect services so that families can send video greetings as well.
Tickets for all home games are on sale at the Civic Auditorium box office, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday from noon through game time and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 422-1212 or at Ticketmaster.com.
