Wizards Announce 2nd Annual Mid-America Barnstorming Tour Schedule

KANSAS CITY, MO (Wednesday, March 3, 2004) - Kansas City Wizards General Manager Curt Johnson announced the Wizards plans for the team's 2nd Annual Mid-America Barnstorming Tour that will consist of six exhibition games taking place prior to and during the first month of the Wizards 2004 season. Stops on the Wizards tour include Southern Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and North Carolina.

"The 2004 edition of the Wizards Mid-America Barnstorming Tour once again will be a fantastic showcase of Major League Soccer in many of Mid-America's great soccer cities," said Johnson. "The game is thriving in this part of the country and Mid-America's favorite soccer team will likely be in a city near you this spring."

The Wizards will take part in one scheduled exhibition match prior to their 2004 MLS Season Opener on April 3rd and will play five matches during the first two months of the season.

Kansas City will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina for the first of their six scheduled exhibition matches just one week prior to the 2004 MLS season opener. The Raleigh exhibition will be a part of a soccer festival with two MLS teams, 2 A-League Teams and 2 PDL teams will take part. The Wizards will play a reserve match on Friday, March 26th and a full squad match on Saturday, March 27th. Both matches will take place at the SAS Soccer Park.

In April, the Wizards will travel to Oklahoma for two exhibition matches, the first in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Sunday, April 4th and the second on Saturday, April 10th in Oklahoma City. Both cities are potential expansion markets for Major League Soccer and will each be hosting the Wizards for the second consecutive year. Last March, 9,223 fans turned out to welcome the Wizards and Major League Soccer to the state of Oklahoma for the first time ever. One week later, Tulsa hosted the Wizards and Dallas Burn as a remarkable 14,585 fans showed their support for America's top soccer league. The University of Tulsa has since opened the new soccer specific Hurricane Soccer Stadium that will host the Wizards exhibition match against the University of Tulsa on April 10th.

For the third consecutive year, Kansas City will face Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri at the Cooper Sports Complex. A "Cinco de Mayo" match-up is on tap for the Wizards and the PDL's Kansas City Brass in Sedalia, Missouri on May 5th. The match marks the two team's second visit to the city, located 100 miles east of Kansas City.

The Wizards will wrap up their exhibition tour with a match in Des Moines, Iowa against another PDL team, the Des Moines Menace. Cara McGrane Memorial Stadium in Des Moines will be the site of the Wizards vs. Menace match for the second consecutive year. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. CT.
