Madison Mallards News Release
WATERLOO, IA - June 22, 2011. The Madison Mallards could not fend off the Waterloo Bucks or the rain Wednesday night as they lost 9-0 in a shortened six-inning game at Riverfront Stadium.
Waterloo jumped on the Mallards early and relied on strong pitching throughout the night.
The Bucks scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning, including three on a double by Thomas Lindauer (Illinois) and two on a home run by Cameron Perkins (Purdue). Perkins scored again in the fourth on an error by shortstop Michael Handel (Minnesota), and in the sixth on a bases loaded walk by Jordan Adams (Central Michigan).
Despite the shortened game, Perkins went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two driven in.
Mike Wisecarver (Nicholls State) was lights out for Waterloo on the mound. Wisecarver pitched all six innings, earning his second win of the season. He allowed no runs on only five hits, and walked just one while striking out nine, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Cam Booser (Oregon State) took the loss for Madison. In his first start of the season, Booser (0-1) went two innings and allowed seven earned runs. Dan Tobik (Tennessee - Martin) pitched three innings in relief, and Jonathon Crawford (Florida) recorded two outs in the sixth before the game was called due to the weather.
Andrew Barna (Davidson) was the leader for the Mallards' offense Wednesday, going 2-for-2. Mike McQuillan (Iowa), Jordan Owen (Tennesse - Martin), and Tyler Jones (Long Island) all had hits as well. None of the five hits the Mallards had were for extra bases.
The loss was the first in the last five games for the Mallards, well fell to 13-8 and one-half game out of first place in the South Division, as Eau Claire's game with Green Bay was postponed due to rain.
The Mallards will return to Warner Park on Thursday for a 7:05 p.m. game against the La Crosse Loggers.
