OSHKOSH, Wis - The Wisconsin Herd (33-10), the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, completed the sweep of its back-to-back and defeated the Capital City Go-Go (22-21) 136-122 on Saturday night inside Menominee Nation Arena.
Seven Herd players scored in double figures, including all five Herd starters. Jaylen Adams led the team in scoring, collected his 1000th career G League point and poured in a game-high 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting. On his birthday, Luke Maye posted career highs in points (25) and field goals (nine) and added nine rebounds. D.J. Hogg notched 18 points, four three-pointers and seven rebounds, while Justin Patton and Trevor Lacey recorded 16 points apiece. Jemerrio Jones posted a stat line of 11 points, 19 rebounds and nine assists and Brandon Randolph added 11 points, three rebounds and two assists off the bench.
Capital City was led by Jerian Grant who scored a team-high 19 points to go with seven assists. Jalen Jones had 17 points, eight rebounds and two steals, while Phil Booth totaled 14 points and six assists. Ike Iroegbu and Admiral Schofield recorded 13 point apiece, while Garrison Mathews and London Perrantes each had 12 points. Mike Cobbins pitched in with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Jalen Jones collected the first basket of the game, and as a team, Capital City posted the opening four points of the contest. The Go-Go connected on nine of its first 10 shots and led by four upon reaching the first media timeout. Jones collected 11 of Capital City's first 23 points and shot 5-for-8 in the stanza. The Go-Go increased its lead and captured a double-digit advantage after Grant made his fourth field goal of the period. Capital City shot a blistering 70% from the field and led by 16 points in the quarter. The Herd surrendered 44 points, which is the second-most the team has allowed in a single quarter this season. Wisconsin shot 52% from the field but trailed 44-28 at the end of the opening 12 minutes.
Schofield tallied the first points of the second quarter, which extended the Go-Go's lead to 18. Capital City pushed its advantage to 20 after Garrison Mathews recorded an old-fashioned four-point play. Following the Go-Go's largest lead of the night, the Herd scored 13 of the next 16 points, which trimmed Capital City's lead to 10. With under seven minutes to play in the half, Wisconsin pulled to within single digits as Maye nabbed his third three-pointer of the game. The Herd cut its deficit to as few as five as Randolph collected a steal and a layup on an attempted inbounds pass by the Go-Go. However, Capital City reupped its advantage to double figures as Cobbins totaled his third field goal and drew the foul in the process. For the half, Wisconsin shot 58% from the floor, but allowed a season-high 80 first half points. Adams and Maye combined to scored 35 points, but the Herd trailed by 10 at the intermission.
To start the second half, the Go-Go posted nine of the first 13 points and promptly reopened a 15-point advantage. Minutes later, Wisconsin managed to make it a two-possession game on the heels of an 11-0 run. With 6:14 remaining in the period, Maye made it an 89-88 game after collecting his 20th point of the night. Shannon Bogues gave the Herd its first lead of the game as he scored on driving layup. The first eight minutes of the third quarter featured a 19-point swing as Wisconsin turned a sizeable deficit into a 95-91 lead. The Herd opened its own double-digit advantage as Maye gave Wisconsin a 103-93 lead on his fifth long ball. In total, the Herd held Capital City to 19% shooting and led 105-98 heading into the final 12 minutes.
Within the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, the Herd outscored the Go-Go by six and pushed its lead it 13. Wisconsin led by as many as 19 points and the team was led by Lacey who poured in a team-high nine points in the period. Capital City made it a 10-point game late, but that is as close as the team would get. The Herd won the second half by 24 points, which allowed the team to collect its league-leading 33rd of the season.
Wisconsin completes the season series sweep of Capital City and are now 4-1 all-time against the Go-Go. With Canton's loss on Saturday, the Herd upped its divisional lead to 4.5 games. Wisconsin also holds a 3.5-game lead over the Maine Red Claws for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Herd will have six days off before hitting the road for a two-game road trip. Wisconsin will first play Erie before finishing the trip in Maine. Tip-off against the Erie BayHawks is set for Friday, March 13 at 6PM CT.
