
Wisconsin Herd Falls Short in Cleveland

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, lost its 2023-24 season opener to the Cleveland Charge 116-109. The Herd opened the game by grabbing a 29-20 advantage while shooting 46.2% from the field in the first quarter. Wisconsin continued to push ahead, shooting 60% from the field while Stevie Thompson Jr. poured in nine points in the second quarter. Cleveland powered back from its eight-point deficit in the third quarter grabbing an 89-80 lead. The Herd responded by outscoring the Charge 29-27 in the fourth quarter with Milwaukee Bucks Two-Way player Marques Bolden bringing in 12 of those points. In the end, the Charge grabbed the 116-109 win.
The Wisconsin Herd was led by Stevie Thompson Jr. with 16 points while Drew Timme and Marques Bolden added 15 each. Wenyen Gabriel followed with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Cleveland Two-Way player Emoni Bates guided the Charge with 29 points followed by Isaiah Mobley with 23.
The Cleveland Charge landed the first points of the game, but Elijah Hughes answered scoring the first basket of the 2023-24 season for the Herd. The Herd continued to charge ahead going up 14-6 in the first quarter. The Charge answered to come within three, but the Herd stayed in the lead. TyTy Washington Jr. sunk a free throw to end the first quarter and put the Herd up 29-20.
The second quarter started quietly with no basket for two minutes, but the Herd broke the silence with a 7-6 run putting them ahead by double digits. With five minutes remaining in the half, Iverson Molinar pushed the Herd to its highest lead of the game at 47-33. The Charge fought to catch up, but the Herd held a steady advantage of 58-50 at the half. Stevie Thompson Jr. guided the Herd with 11 points in the first half.
The Charge opened the third quarter with a 15-6 run to take the lead for the second time this game. TyTy Washington broke the streak with one basket, but the Charge went unfazed, grabbing a 10-point edge at the six-minute mark. The Herd hit back-to-back three-point shots by Stevie Thompson Jr. and Alex Antetokounmpo to bring the Herd within four. Cleveland responded by going up 89-80 at the end of the third quarter.
Alex Antetokounmpo scored the first basket of the fourth quarter bringing the Herd within seven. The Herd continued the momentum to cut the lead to three points with eight minutes remaining in the game. The Charge didn't back down and hit four consecutive baskets to regain a 10-point advantage. Milwaukee Bucks Two-Way players Marques Bolden and TyTy Washington Jr. combined for seven points at the five-minute mark bringing the score to 105-98. Bolden continued his scoring path adding back-to-back baskets. Stevie Thompson Jr. and Marques Bolden teamed up for four points to close out the game. The Charge beat the Herd 116-109.
The Herd will remain in Cleveland to play the Charge on Sunday, November 12 with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. CST. Fans can tune in to tv32 or at NBGleague.com.
