Winters Joins Suns

Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Jacksonville Suns have made the following transaction in time for the Tuesday May 5 game at Chattanooga:

RHP Kyle Winters has been promoted to Jacksonville from the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League. A jersey number will be assigned upon his arrival this afternoon. He fills the roster spot left vacant upon Chris Mobley's promotion to New Orleans yesterday.

Winters was a fifth round selection by the Florida Marlins in the 2005 draft out of Pomona High School in Arvada, Colo. The right-hander opened the 2009 season with Jupiter, starting five games with a 1-0 record, 0.87 ERA, 4 walks and 15 strikeouts.

Winters will start Thursday night against the Chattanooga Lookouts, sending Kasey Olenberger back to the bullpen. The rotation for the Chattanooga series follows:

Tues. May 5: RH Jarrett Santos

Wed. May 6: LH Sean West

Thurs. May 7: RH Kyle Winters

Fri. May 8: LH Aaron Thompson

Sat. May 9: RH Cristhian Martinez

The Suns have 24 active players, the Southern League maximum, with eight players on the disabled list.
