Biscuits Win Fourth Straight, 12-2

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Biscuits rolled to their fourth consecutive victory, 12-2, over the Birmingham Barons despite starter Jeremy Hellickson departing after two innings on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Hellickson, the Biscuits top-starter, left with a supraspinatus sprain in his throwing shoulder. He will be reevaluated in a couple of days, and is expected to miss his next start. The injury occurred while Hellickson was making a pick-off move to first base in the second inning.
The Barons had grabbed the lead before Hellickson's departure with a run in the second inning. David Cook singled with two out and came in to score when Stefan Gartrell doubled to the alley in right-center field.
Montgomery came roaring back with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Shawn Riggans led off with a single in the first at-bat of his rehab stint. Rashad Eldridge then doubled off of Barons' starter Lucas Harrell to put two aboard. J.T. Hall followed with an RBI single on the infield and when Gordan Beckham threw wildly to third base attempting to cut down Eldridge, he came in to score to give the Biscuits the lead, 2-1. Hall advanced to third on a Fernando Cortez fly out to center field and when the ball was misplayed coming back into the infield, the Biscuits led 3-1. Drew Anderson sparked the rally again with a two-out double and scored on a single for Desmond Jennings to run the lead to 4-1.
Brandon Mann (1-0) came on for the departed Hellickson and earned the win by allowing just a lone run over three innings of relief. That run scored when Brandon Allen sent a sacrifice fly to center field to score Gordan Beckham, who had doubled in the fifth inning.
Jennings tripled and scored on a wild pitch from Harrell in the bottom of the fifth as the Biscuits reclaimed their three-run lead. Harrell (2-1) allowed five earned runs over six innings to take his first loss of the season.
Montgomery added four runs off of reliever Jhonny Nunez in the seventh inning, before adding insult to injury with three more runs in the eighth off of reliever Matt Long to cap the scoring, 12-2.
The 12 runs for the Biscuits is a season-high, while the 14 total hits they collected is the second-most on the season. Jennings added two more hits to his league-leading total of 43, while also driving in three runs.
Chris Mason and Neal Frontz took it the rest of the way for Montgomery, with each working two scoreless innings of relief.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 10:35 AM at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Aneury Rodriguez (0-4, 6.95) will make the start for Montgomery against RHP John Ely (3-0, 2.95) for Birmingham.
