Stars outlast Jaxx 13-10 in marathon game Tuesday night

Jackson, Tenn. (May 5, 2009) - The Jaxx (10-14) and Stars (11-12) who have battled with the weather the last few days played a 3:40 minute marathon on Monday that the Stars edged out 13-10. West Tenn now drops to a game and a half behind the second place team from Huntsville.

With the score 5-3 Diamond Jaxx entering the top of the sixth, the Stars put together a four run sixth. In the inning, Vinny Rottino picked up an RBI base hit and so did Freddy Parejo who scored on his base hit after a throwing error by Jaxx catcher, Yamid Haad. The Stars took a 7-5 lead.

The Diamond Jaxx bounced back in the bottom of the inning. Matt Mangini reached base on a walk and Ezequiel Carrera singled putting two runners on. Marshall Hubbard plugged the right-center gap plating two runs and tying the game at seven after six.

Huntsville once again put a four spot up on the scoreboard, this time in the eighth. An error by Jeff Dominguez cost the Jaxx as the inning continued and eventually Adam Heether doubled scoring two runs after Adam Stern picked up an RBI single. The Stars led 11-7.

The Stars added two more in the ninth taking a 13-7 lead to the bottom of the ninth as the Jaxx would not go down quietly. In the bottom of the ninth against Stars pitcher, Omar Aguilar, Marshall Hubbard led the inning off with a walk followed by a double by Greg Halman. Aguilar walked the bases loaded by walking Javier Brito. Yamid Haad picked up his third hit of game scoring two as Haad drove in three in the game. Dominguez drove in one more but that would be all for the Jaxx on Tuesday night.

In the game, Greg Halman went two for three with three runs scored. He hit his 10th homerun of the season and drove in RBI number 28. Both lead the Southern League. Marwin Vega takes the loss for the Jaxx, falling to 0-2 on the year. Reliever for the Stars, Casey Baron (3-0) picks up the win.

Lost in the mix was a good start by RHP Kyle Parker who picks up a no decision. Parker, making his first start in a week dealt five innings, allowing four runs on three hits. He struck out five batters in the outing.

Game two of the series is today at 11:05. LHP Danny Christensen (0-1, 18.00) goes for the Jaxx, making his second start of the year. Opposing him will be LHP Bobby Bramhall (0-2, 8.56) for the Stars.
