Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winterhawks have announced the signing of goaltender Mac Carruth.

Carruth, 17, comes to the Winterhawks from the North American Hockey League's Wenatchee Wild. In 16 games this season he posted a record of 11-4 with one shutout, a goals against average of 2.43 and a 91.1% save percentage. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the seventh annual Sherwood/NAHL Showcase Tournament and the Sherwood/NAHL Goalie of the Week on Sept. 22.

As a 16-year-old rookie last season, Carruth was 18-7-1 with one shutout, a goals against average of 3.04 and a 90.4% save percentage as he helped guide the Wild to the NAHL Finals in their first year of existence.

Carruth joins the Winterhawks after receiving a scholarship offer from the University of Minnesota Duluth.

"We had an opportunity to acquire a talented young goaltender, and at 17 Mac fits in with the young core who will grow together over the next few seasons," said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. "Mac is a very driven young player who wants to play at the highest level, and comes from a strong program that has produced NHL draft picks."
