Portland Winterhawks News Release

In a high-scoring affair Friday night in Chilliwack, the Winterhawks lost a 6-4 decision to the Bruins, snapping their five-game road winning streak.

Chilliwack opened the scoring when Ryan Howse, their leading scorer, took advantage of a Winterhawks penalty and scored a power play goal at the 6:48 mark of the first period, beating Portland netminder Ian Curtis. The Bruins added to their lead six minutes later when Roman Horak scored his ninth of the season. The Winterhawks got on the board at the 13:32 mark, when Chris Francis beat Bruins goaltender Mark Friesen with a power play marker to cut the Bruins' lead to 2-1.

Howse then opened the second period scoring with a shorthanded goal, his second of the game, at the 9:54 mark to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead. Luke Walker answered back at 14:19 with his team-leading 13th goal of the season to make it 3-2. Walker struck again four minutes later to tie the game at 3-3. However, the tie was short-lived, as Chilliwack's Chris Collins gave the Bruins the lead again with just 25 seconds to go in the period, going up 4-3.

After a late goal to end the second, Chilliwack then got an early goal in the third, as Horak got his second of the game 55 seconds into the period with a shorthanded goal to make it 5-3. The Hawks fought back, and Brad Ross cut the lead to 5-4 at the 8:05 mark with his 12th goal of the season in front on a rebound. But Chilliwack again made it a two-goal lead when Kevin Sundher potted his 10th of the season to give the Bruins a 6-4 lead, which would end up as the final score.

The Bruins outshot Portland 40-37, and each team had a power play goal on the night.

With Howse and Horak scoring twice apiece Friday, it mirrored Sunday's game at the Rose Garden when both players also had two goals each in the Bruins' 5-4 win over Portland.

The Winterhawks wrap up their three-game road trip tomorrow night in Vancouver against the Giants.
