The Portland Winterhawks (33-28-4-0) fell 2-1 in Seattle Saturday against the Thunderbirds (39-23-3-0).

Seattle struck first 5:41 into the game when Ethan Bear scored on a power play for a 1-0 lead, the lone goal of the period.

Rihards Bukarts got the Hawks on the board 9:07 into the second when he sped past a Seattle defender to get in alone on net, then beat goaltender Landon Bow to tie the game at 1-1. But 1:35 later Seattle's Nolan Volcan scored to give the Thunderbirds a 2-1 advantage they took into the third.

Portland fired 13 shots at Seattle in the third period, but Bow turned them away to keep the Hawks from getting the equalizer, as the Thunderbirds escaped with the one-goal win.

Adin Hill made 31 saves in the loss, while Bow turned away 32 of Portland's 33 shots.

The Hawks' next game will be Tuesday in Everett when they take on the Silvertips.
