
Winterhawks Fall 2-1 in Overtime Sunday in Everett

The Portland Winterhawks (43-15-3-1) picked up a point in the standings, but had their nine-game winning streak snapped in a 2-1 overtime defeat in Everett Sunday against the Silvertips (17-36-1-8).
Portland opened the game outshooting Everett 11-4 in the first period, but the two teams went scoreless in the frame.
The Hawks' Cam Reid opened the scoring 2:53 into the second period to give Portland a 1-0 lead they took into the third.
The game remained 1-0 through most of the third, but with under a minute to go the Silvertips pulled netminder Kent Simpson for an extra attacker, and they converted at the 19:09 mark on a goal by Joshua Winquist to send the game to overtime tied 1-1.
Everett then got the winning goal 1:07 into the extra frame from Ryan Harrison to pick up the win.
The Hawks outshot Everett 36-28 in the loss. Mac Carruth made 26 saves, while Simpson stopped 35 of the 36 Portland shots he faced.
Portland is back in action when they host the Kamloops Blazers in a big game Tuesday night at the Rose Garden at 7 p.m.
