Winterhawks Even Series with 3-0 Game 2 Win over Seattle

The Portland Winterhawks evened their first round playoff series Sunday with a 3-0 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds in front of 9,119 fans at the Moda Center.

With the Hawks' victory the series is now tied 1-1, with Game 3 Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Seattle.

Goaltender Adin Hill picked up his first career playoff shutout, turning away all 21 shots he faced from the Thunderbirds.

The Hawks opened the scoring 14:23 into the first when they used great forechecking to pin Seattle in their own zone, with Nic Petan heading to the net and banging in a rebound for a 1-0 lead they took into the second period.

After a scoreless second, it remained a tight-checking 1-0 game through most of the third. Finally with just 1:58 to go in the third and Seattle netminder Taran Kozun on the bench for an extra attacker, Dominic Turgeon carried the puck into the neutral zone, fought off a checker and flipped the puck into the empty net for a 2-0 lead.

Kozun then remained on the bench, and 12 seconds later on the ensuing shift, Oliver Bjorkstrand scored into the empty net to seal the 3-0 win.

Petan finished with two points in the win for the Hawks.

Kozun made 36 saves on 37 shots for Seattle, with Portland adding the two empty net goals.
