Winterhawks Earn Point with Two Late Strikes

Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - Another third-period comeback helped the Winterhawks (39-19-5-3) snag a well-earned point, but Ty Halaburda's two-goal night nudged the Vancouver Giants (27-31-5-3) to a 3-2 win in overtime.

For the second straight game, the Winterhawks climbed out of a two-goal hole in the third period to level the score. After Vancouver's Tyler Thorpe made it 2-0 early in the final frame, Robbie Fromm-Delorme once again kicked off the comeback with a one-time, power-play blast at 7:14. Six minutes later, Diego Buttazzoni knotted things up as he hammered home a Luke Schelter centering feed to force overtime.

Despite the late fireworks, it was the man who started the scoring that ended up finishing it. Vancouver's Halaburda tallied the only other goal of regulation time just two minutes into the contest, then grabbed the overtime winner 4:24 into overtime to seal the extra point for the Giants.

The Winterhawks are back on home ice on Friday to close out the home portion of their regular-season slate against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Puck drop is set for 7:00 P.M. before both teams head north for a rematch in Kent on Saturday.
