Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club is proud to announce the signing of defenseman Kayd Ruedig to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
Ruedig, 15, has recorded three goals and 20 assists in 41 games with the U18 Tisdale Trojans of the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL) this season, as well as one assist in three games with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Humboldt Broncos. Originally selected by the Winterhawks in the fourth round, #84 overall, of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft, Ruedig posted 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 31 games with Humboldt's U15 program last season.
"We are very pleased with Kayd's steady development since drafting him, and he has shown the potential to grow into a complete two-way Winterhawks defenseman," said Assistant to the General Manager and Director of Scouting Mike Coflin. "We are happy to have Kayd confirmed as an important piece of our future."
Last September, Ruedig helped Team Rattie win the Neely Cup during Winterhawks training camp in their annual tournament. He becomes the third player from Portland's 2022 WHL Prospects Draft class to sign with the team, joining forwards Kyle McDonough (Rd. 2, #40) and Ryan Miller (Rd. 3, #66).
