Portland, Ore. - Portland Winterhawks alumnus Adin Hill captured his first-ever Stanley Cup championship Tuesday night as the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Florida Panthers 9-3. Hill stopped 31 of the 34 shots he faced in the Game 5 victory at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Golden Knights were well-represented with Western Hockey League talent, boasting a total of 24 former WHL players and hockey operations staffers throughout the organization.
Hill, 27, becomes the 11th Winterhawks alumnus to lift Lord Stanley's Cup as a player and the first since Braydon Coburn did so with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020. The Comox, B.C. native led all goaltenders with a .932 save percentage and two postseason shutouts.
He took over the starter's crease for Vegas during its second-round match-up with Edmonton and quickly became a playoff star. In 16 playoff games, Hill owned an 11-4 record to accompany his stellar save percentage and 2.17 goals-against average.
During his time in Portland, Hill went 67-38-6-1 with five shutouts and a .919 career save percentage. He helped lead the Winterhawks to the Western Conference Final in 2015 and was drafted in the third round by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Former Winterhawks Craig Cunningham (2010-11) and Bruno Campese (1982-83) also won the Stanley Cup with Vegas, serving as scouts for the Golden Knights. In addition, Sean Burke, father of Winterhawks Assistant Goaltending Coach Brendan Burke, claimed the Cup as the Golden Knights' Goaltending Coach.
The Winterhawks would also like to congratulate former captain John Ludvig and head coach and general manager Jamie Kompon on a terrific season with the Florida Panthers organization.
