WOODBRIDGE, VA (APRIL 13, 2011) - The Dash and Nationals split a pair of 3-2 contests on Wednesday night at Pfitzner Stadium, sending Winston-Salem to another series victory ahead of its return to BB&T Ballpark. Winston erased a 2-0 deficit to win the first game in ten innings while Potomac also came from behind to knock off the Dash in the second game.

Offense was hard to come by in game one, as the teams combined for one hit and no runs over the first three innings. Potomac (2-3) cracked the scoreboard first when Steven Souza hit a two-run home run off Joe Serafin to make it 2-0 Nationals.

The Dash (4-2) leveled the contest in the sixth inning. With two outs, P-Nats starter Paul Demny hit Jared Mitchell with a pitch and was removed from the game by manager Matt LeCroy. Reliever Ryan Demmin entered and served up a two-run home run to Ian Gac to tie the game.

Originally slated to go seven innings, the game went ten frames as neither team could produce a scoring threat after Gac's home run. That changed in the top of the tenth, when Kyle Shelton led off the inning with a single off Carlos Martinez. Shelton moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored when Daniel Wagner's grounder ricocheted off Martinez into right field for a base hit.

Taylor Thompson mowed down the Nationals in order in the bottom of the inning to preserve the 3-2 Winston-Salem win. Thompson was credited with his first save.

Orlando Santos (1-0) threw three scoreless innings for his first win of the season, while Martinez (0-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up the tenth inning run.

The Dash got off to a fast start in game two, scoring single runs in each of the first two innings off P-Nats starter Mitchell Clegg. In the first, Jose Martinez doubled, moved to third on a balk and scored on Clegg's wild pitch to the backstop to make it 1-0 Winston. Kyle Colligan doubled the Dash advantage in the second with a sacrifice fly.

Winston-Salem's bats, however, went quiet after the second inning as Potomac rallied to tie the game. Souza tripled off starter Terry Doyle and the Nationals got back-to-back RBI singles from Francisco Soriano and Chris Curran to even the game a two after two innings.

In the third, Destin Hood tripled with two outs and came home on Souza's single to make it 3-2 Potomac.

The Dash managed just two more baserunners and no hits over the rest of the game, as the combination of Clegg and relievers Josh Smoker and Pat Lehman retired the final 11 men they faced.

Smoker (1-0) got the win with a perfect inning out of the bullpen, while Lehman earned his first save. Doyle (0-1) pitched a six-inning complete game, but was charged with the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits.

Notes: Wednesday marked the first anniversary of the opening of BB&T Ballpark. On April 13, 2010, the Dash and Nationals went 12 innings, with Potomac winning 5-4 in 12 innings... Jose Martinez extended his hit streak to start the season to six games, while Daniel Wagner's five-game hit streak ended with an 0 for 3 performance in game two...

After an off-day on Thursday, the Dash will return to BB&T Ballpark for its home opener on Friday night against the Kinston Indians. RHP Andre Rienzo (0-0, 2.25) will take the mound for Winston-Salem against LHP T.J. McFarland (0-1, 3.00).
