OFFENSE SMACKS 19 HITS IN 10-2 WIN

The Dash offense collected a season-high 19 hits to lead Winston-Salem to a 10-2 win over the Red Sox at Haley Toyota Field on Tuesday night. Ti'Quan Forbes and Yeyson Yrizarri each tied career-highs with four hits, and Gavin Sheets went 3-for-5 with two doubles. Alex Call went 2-for-6 and tied a career-high with four RBIs, while Zach Remillard and Blake Rutherford notched multi-hit games. The offensive onslaught reached its peak in the ninth inning. Leading 4-2, Winston-Salem sent 10 men to the plate and scored six runs on six hits, including four doubles, to put the game out of reach. Dash right-hander Jimmy Lambert cruised through his six innings of work, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out seven.

BACK ON THE WINNING TRACK

Following a 2-4 road trip from April 24-29, the Dash have righted the ship with a 7-1 stretch over their last eight games to pull even with Buies Creek atop the Southern Division standings. Over this stretch, the Dash have outscored their three opponents (Lynchburg, Buies Creek and Salem) 56-26. The offense has yet to score less than five runs in a game during this span, and they have posted an impressive clip of .353 (36-for-102) with runners in scoring position. On the mound, Winston-Salem has jumped ahead of the Astros with the best team ERA in the circuit with a 3.08 mark. The starting staff has been especially strong, posting a 6-1 record with a 2.28 ERA.

KEEP IT ROLLING

Following back-to-back five-hit efforts at the end of April, the unit has re-established themselves as the best in the 10-team circuit with solid performances to begin the month of May. Winston sits atop the Carolina League in several offensive categories, including batting average (.285), on-base percentage (.368), slugging percentage (.450), hits (309) and doubles (81). Meanwhile, the team is second in the league in runs scored (169), third in homers (26) and tied for third in stolen bases (28).

CEASE NAMED CL POW ON MONDAY

Thanks to dominant outings over Lynchburg and Buies Creek, Winston-Salem right-hander Dylan Cease earned the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week award for the week of April 30-May 6, the league office announced on Monday. Cease overpowered the Hillcats in the Dash's 9-0 win at BB&T Ballpark on May 1, tossing a career-high seven innings and notching a career-high 12 strikeouts, followed by a six-inning, two-run performance against the Astros on Sunday. One of four prospects traded from the Cubs to the White Sox last July for big leaguer Jose Quintana, Cease went a combined 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched last week.

NOT THE ONLY ONE STEPPING UP

While Cease has dominated, several other starters have been sterling on the mound as of late. Here's a look at the numbers for three other members of the rotation over their last two times out:

LHP Bernardo Flores: 1-1, 1.38 ERA, 2QS, 13.0IP, 2ER, 12K

RHP Jimmy Lambert: 2-0, 0.75 ERA, 12IP, 2 QS, 1R-ER, 16K

RHP Luis Martinez: 2-0, 1.80 ERA, 10IP, 2ER, 10K

BANKS ARE OPEN

Dash left-hander Tanner Banks will make his first appearance at Haley Toyota Field since May 5, 2017, when he picked up the loss against the Red Sox. The southpaw is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA in five outings against Salem. Banks, who was a Carolina League All-Star with Winston-Salem last year, is 0-2 with a 5.79 ERA in two starts this season. Banks was placed on the Dash roster on April 27 from extended spring training.

DASH DOTS

The Dash's 19 hits on Tuesday were the most for the ballclub since they registered 21 hits on July 16, 2016, against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at BB&T Ballpark...The last time Winston-Salem won seven of eight games was from July 30-August 5, 2017.
