Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Lynchburg Hillcats (15-17) used a pair of two-run innings to defeat the Frederick Keys (14-19) 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The loss snapped a season-high four game winning streak for the Keys.
The Hillcats got on the board in the second thanks to back-to-back walks with the bases loaded. Trenton Brooks singled, and Jodd Carter flied out to center. Anthony Miller and Erlin Cerda then followed with singles to load the bases. After Keys starter Ofelky Peralta got Alexis Pantoja to pop out, he walked Mitch Longo and Luke Wakamatsu to make it 2-0 Hillcats.
Frederick would answer with a run in the bottom of the frame. Cole Billingsley singled and Wilson Garcia followed with a walk. Daniel Fajardo then singled to load the bases with nobody out. Micah Miniard induced a double play off the bat of Alejandro Juvier that scored Billingsley, but that was all the Keys would get in the inning.
In the top of the third, Lynchburg scored two more runs. Li-Jen Chu doubled, and Brooks singled and advanced to second on an error by Billingsley. Two batters later, Miller singled in Brooks to push the lead to 4-1.
The Keys struck twice in the bottom of the fourth. Following a double from Garcia, Miniard threw two wild pitches to score him. Fajardo singled, but was erased on a fielder's choice that allowed Juvier to reach first. He advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a Chris Clare double bringing the Keys within a run.
Frederick threatened in the ninth, getting the winning run to first base. Alejandro Juvier singled, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Ryan McKenna then walked, but both men were stranded on the bases. James Karinchak struck out Palmeiro and then forced Gassaway to ground out to end the game and earn his first save.
Peralta (1-3) went two innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits, taking the loss. He walked two and struck out one. Coming out of the bullpen, Lucas Humpal fired 4.1 scoreless innings while striking out three. Kieran Lovegrove (3-0) picked up the win in relief for the Hillcats. He fired three scoreless innings and struck out five.
The Keys begin a four-game set with the Potomac Nationals on Thursday night. Right-hander Jhon Peluffo (2-0, 4.76) takes the mound for the Keys, while the Nationals have not announced their starter. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio App.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. In 2017, the Keys received the Esurance Home Field Advantage Award for Carolina League for the second straight season, after leading the circuit in highest percentage of attendance based on ballpark capacity.
