Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - For the first time in its history, TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark will host two games between the USA Nationals and Scrap Yard Fast Pitch on Tuesday, July 24 and Wednesday, July 25. The two-game series roster includes many of the sport's top athletes including Monica Abbott, Lauren Haeger, Dallas Escobedo, Haylie McCleney, Aubree Monroe, Kelsey Stewart, Ali Aguilar, and many more.
"I was blown away by the support of our fans and the quality of softball two years ago when we hosted some of the Scrap Yard Fast Pitch players," Pelicans General Manager Ryan Moore said. "To include USA Nationals comprised 100% of Team USA members in this year's games is an incredible opportunity for our fans to see the best softball our country has to offer. We could not be more thrilled to host this event here in Myrtle Beach."
In addition to the two games, youth athletes will have the opportunity to learn from players and coaches at a softball clinic from 9 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24. The clinic will concentrate on pitching, hitting, fielding, catching, and throwing. Registration is $100 and includes a t-shirt, lunch, and a reserved box seat ticket to one game (July 24 or 25). Registration for the clinic is available online at www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/softball.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday and 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday. Following each seven-inning contest there will be a 45-minute autograph session for kids.
The two-game series will serve as a warm-up for the USA Softball athletes before their trip to Japan for the WBSC Women's World Championship from August 2-12. The team is highlighted by Olympic Silver Medalist and two-time WBSC Gold Medalist pitcher Monica Abbott. The left-hander, who starred at the University of Tennessee, still holds NCAA Division I records for most games pitched in a season (69), career games pitched (253), shutouts (112), strikeouts in a season (724), and strikeouts in a career (2,440), among many others. On the national level, she has recorded an ERA no higher than 0.58 in all three trips in the WBSC World Championships and went 3-0 with a 0.29 ERA in the 2008 Olympics.
Tickets are on sale now and are available through the Myrtle Beach Pelicans' box office, online at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/softball and over the phone at 843-918-6000.
