WINSTON-SALEM DASH (15-15) vs. FREDERICK KEYS (17-13)
RHP Justin Collop (2-2, 3.91 ERA) vs. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (2-2, 3.90 ERA)
7 p.m. - BB&T Ballpark (Winston-Salem, NC)
RED SOX EARN RUBBER MATCH WIN After the Dash claimed a convincing 10-1 win over Salem in a series opener Friday, the Red Sox bounced back with a pair of wins, including Sunday's 7-3 triumph, to hand Winston-Salem its second home series loss in four tries this season. Salem struck for three in the first and two more in the second Sunday against starter Terance Marin, who allowed six earned runs on eight hits in six innings. Winston-Salem banged out nine hits, but the Dash only had two at-bats with men in scoring position.
WE'RE GOING STREAKING Dash infielder Jeremy Farrell's RBI streak came to an end Sunday after he drove in at least one run in five straight games from Tuesday through Saturday. In those five games, Farrell boasted a .364 average (8-for-22) to go along with three homers and 11 RBIs. This surge propelled Farrell to a league-leading 24 RBIs. Myrtle Beach's Trever Adams and Potomac's Michael Taylor are tied for second in the CL with 22. With a fourth-inning single Sunday, Farrell extended his hitting streak to seven games, which matches the second-longest by a Dash hitter thus far this season.
HEISLER'S ON-BASE STREAK Dating back to last season, Winston-Salem outfielder Adam Heisler has reached base in 33 straight games. Heisler made his way aboard in the final three games of 2012 while with rookie-level Great Falls before finding his way on base in all 30 games so far this year (19 with Low-A Kannapolis and 11 with Winston-Salem). Heisler has hit safely in 26 of those 33 games, and he owns a .299 (38-for-127) average with 15 RBIs and 23 runs scored during this streak.
LONELY MONDAY The Dash's clash with Frederick is the only game in the CL today. Both of these teams will have Thursday off while the rest of the league plays that night. Winston will have had games scheduled on 30 days in a row on Wednesday.
HOMER HAPPY Thanks to Chris Curley's solo shot in the first inning Sunday, the Dash increased their league-leading long ball total to 29, or almost one big fly per game. Lynchburg (22) and Frederick (21) are the only other CL squads with 20 or more homers. Winston-Salem is fourth among the 30 High-A clubs in homers, trailing only Stockton (44), Fort Myers (31) and High Desert (31).
LAST TIME AGAINST FREDERICK The Dash bounced back from an 0-3 start by sweeping the Keys in Maryland from April 9-11. The Dash needed a ninth-inning rally and a 10th-inning run to pull past Frederick in the opener. Winston-Salem bested tonight's starter Eduardo Rodriguez in the middle match by a score of 5-2. Then, the Dash clinched one of their two sweeps this season with a 5-4 triumph in the finale. A year ago, Winston-Salem won the season series 11-9, but the Keys were 6-5 at BB&T Ballpark. Two of the Dash's league-low three home series losses were against Frederick.
HAWKINS PLACED ON DISABLED LIST Dash outfielder and White Sox top prospect Courtney Hawkins has been placed on the disabled list with a left shoulder injury, the Sox announced Thursday. Hawkins made a diving catch to end the third inning of Wednesday's game in Lynchburg, but he was slow to get to his feet. Hawkins was able to jog to the dugout, but David Herbek replaced him as a pinch hitter in the fourth. In 23 games thus far this season, Hawkins is hitting .177 with a team-leading seven homers and 17 RBIs. At the time of his injury, he paced the minors with 45 strikeouts.
ONE MILLIONTH FAN AT BB&T BALLPARK The Dash expect to welcome their one millionth fan to BB&T Ballpark sometime this month, which would be the fastest a High-A facility would reach this attendance milestone. Through three-plus seasons at BB&T Ballpark, the franchise has drawn 987,848 fans, which is the highest total in High-A baseball in that span.
