Dash Skid Hits Three with Loss to Keys

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MAY 6, 2013) - The Winston-Salem Dash's losing streak has now hit three after suffering a 10-3 loss to the Frederick Keys Monday night at BB&T Ballpark.
For the third straight day, the Dash (15-16) allowed the opponents to get on the board in the top of the first. The first three reached against starter Justin Collop (2-3), loading the bases for Zane Chavez. Chavez drove in the game's first two runs with a single, giving Frederick (18-13) a lead they would not relinquish all night.
In the bottom of the first, Winston-Salem got on the board for the first time. With one down, the Dash loaded the bases against Keys starter Eduardo Rodriguez (3-2). With Mark Haddow at the plate, Joey DeMichele came around on a wild pitch to get the home team on the board. However, the Dash would not score again in the inning.
After a quiet second, Frederick erupted for five against Collop in the third. Chavez was at it again, taking an offering from the righty over the short wall in right field to make it 4-1. A single and two walks later Glynn Davis mashed a bases-clearing triple to put Frederick up by six and chase Collop from the game.
DeMichele struck again in the bottom half of the third, helping Winston grab a run back. The second baseman tripled, and Chris Curley brought him in with a bounce out for his 16th RBI of the campaign.
The margin was cut to four in the bottom of the sixth when Jeremy Farrell doubled to extend his Carolina League lead in RBIs, which sits at 25.
Winston-Salem's hopes of a comeback came to an end in the seventh frame when Jerome Pena hit a two-run shot to push the margin back to six. Frederick added one final tally in the ninth on a run-scoring double by Pena, making him the third Key to drive in three or more on the night.
The Dash continue their three-game set with the Keys Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark. Right-hander Bryan Blough (1-4, 6.47 ERA) will toe the rubber for Winston-Salem, while Frederick counters with fellow righty Tyler Wilson (0-1, 4.50 ERA).
