DASH FALL 10-6 IN FRONT OF 7,288

The Dash welcomed a season-high 7,288 fans to BB&T Ballpark on Friday, but they fell to the Buies Creek Astros 10-6. The 7,288 fans in attendance marked the sixth-largest crowd in BB&T Ballpark history. Winston-Salem attempted a comeback, playing four runs in the seventh. Following a Luis Basabe walk and a Blake Rutherford single to load the bases with nobody out, Micker Adolfo drew a free pass to force in a run. Then, Gavin Sheets delivered a bases-clearing double to bring the tying run to the plate. Buies Creek turned to southpaw Kit Scheetz, who retired the next three batters to end the threat. Scheetz finished the game with three scoreless innings for the Astros to earn his first save of the season.

ADOLFO EARNS CL POM FOR APRIL

Adolfo turned a strong month of April into the Carolina League's Player of the Month award, the league office announced Thursday. Adolfo becomes the first Winston-Salem player to earn a monthly honor from the league since Nick Basto was named the Player of the Month for April of 2016. In 24 April contests, Adolfo, who is rated by MLB Pipeline as the 10th-best prospect in the White Sox system, posted a .308/.369/.549 batting line. His five homers were tops in the circuit, while his 21 RBIs were tied for the best in the league. Entering play Saturday, Adolfo leads the Carolina League lead in homers (six), total bases (60) and RBIs (25). Meanwhile, he is second in extra-base hits (15), tied for second in doubles (nine), third in slugging percentage (.594) and sixth in batting average (.327). Adolfo was signed by the White Sox as an international free agent at the age of 16 in 2013.

HELLO, BUIES CREEK

Saturday's middle match against the Astros marks the second of 20 meetings against their Southern Division foe, which is tied for the third-most games against an opponent this season. Coming into tonight's game, Winston-Salem trails Buies Creek by three games in the Southern Division standings. The Astros have posted a league-best 2.93 ERA.

BASABE NAMED SOX CO-MILB POM

Dash outfielder Luis Basabe, who is rated by MLB Pipeline as the 13th-best prospect in the White Sox organization, was named the White Sox co-Minor League Player of the Month for April, along with Winston-Salem alumnus Seby Zavala. Basabe shined through his first 21 games, posting a .313/.400/.614 batting line, leading the Carolina League in slugging percentage and ranking eighth in batting average. The 21-year-old is currently second in the league in slugging percentage (.630) and is tied for second in the league in home runs (five).

OFFENSE GAME = MUSCLE EMOJI

Following back-to-back five-hit efforts, which were tied for the lowest total in a game for the Dash offense this season, the unit has re-established themselves as the best in the 10-team circuit with solid performances to begin the month of May. Winston sits alone atop the Carolina League in several offensive categories, including batting average (.282), on-base percentage (.365), slugging percentage (.445) and doubles (65). Meanwhile, the team is tied for the league lead in hits (265), and they are second in runs scored (142).

THE FLO SHOW

Bernardo Flores gets the ball on Saturday for Winston-Salem. The southpaw has turned in a quality start in three of his five outings this season, including last week at Wilmington. Flores went six innings and allowed three runs (zero earned) against the Blue Rocks, striking out four and walking one. The California native currently leads the team with 29.0 innings pitched.

DASH DOTS

The White Sox placed infielder Yoan Moncada on the 10-day disabled list with hamstring tightness...Joel Booker leads all White Sox farmhands in batting average, and Adolfo is tied for the organizational lead in homers with Dash alumni Matt Rose and Seby Zavala.
