WINSTON-SALEM DASH (32-29) vs. WILMINGTON BLUE ROCKS (31-30)

RHP Jake Cose (0-1, 7.20 ERA) vs. LHP John Lamb (4-5, 5.75 ERA)

7 p.m. - BB&T Ballpark (Winston-Salem, NC)

BECK, DASH BLANK BLUE ROCKS Behind Chris Beck's first career complete game and a five-run first inning, Winston-Salem took down the Wilmington Blue Rocks 5-0 on Friday night in front of 5,934 fans at BB&T Ballpark. Beck scattered five hits and faced two more than the minimum en route to his fourth straight win. He whiffed a career high-tying seven and threw only 90 pitches. Winston ousted Wilmington starter Kyle Zimmer before he could get out of the first frame. The Dash scored all of their runs in the first via Kevan Smith's RBI double, Courtney Hawkins' two-run double and Adam Heisler's two-run single.

HISTORY BECK-ONS Beck became the second pitcher in the Dash era (2009-present) to toss a nine-inning complete game shutout. Fellow righty Matt Heidenreich accomplished the feat on June 25, 2012, at home against Salem. Heidenreich was traded to the Astros a month later in the Brett Myers deal. Beck is one of three Dash hurlers to throw nine innings in a single outing, joining Heidenreich and Terry Doyle (June 1, 2011, vs. Potomac). Beck and Potomac's Taylor Hill are the only CL pitchers with a complete game shutout this season, but Hill's was only a seven-inning effort.

SHUTOUT CITY The Dash turned in their Carolina League-leading seventh shutout of the campaign Friday night. Winston has at least three more shutout victories than any other CL club (Myrtle Beach and Potomac, 4). The Dash are tied for second among the 30 High-A teams in shutouts, trailing only St. Lucie (8). Winston is three behind Corpus Christi (10) for the minor league lead.

ROCKING THE BLUE CREW After going 15-5 against Wilmington in 2012, Winston-Salem has won seven of its first eight meetings with the Blue Crew this year because of great pitching. The Blue Rocks are hitting only .195 with 12 total runs against a Dash staff that owns a 1.57 ERA against Wilmington.

ALL SQUARE For the second straight day, Winston-Salem is tied with Myrtle Beach in the Southern Division standings. The Pelicans cruised past Carolina 10-1 Friday in Zebulon. Prior to Thursday, the Dash had not owned a piece of the division's top spot since April 23 when they were 10-8. Both the Dash and Pelicans have only two teams remaining on their first-half slates. Winston plays Wilmington (7-1) six times and Lynchburg (2-6) three times, while Myrtle has seven games remaining against Carolina (6-1) and three to go versus Frederick (5-3).

TURNING THINGS AROUND Winston-Salem infielder Joey DeMichele has hit safely in seven straight games and 13 of his last 15 games dating back to May 26, when his average sat at .189. During these 15 games, the former Arizona State product is hitting .387 (24-for-62) with nine RBIs and 15 runs scored. This spurt has raised his average 51 points to .240. During his seven-game hitting streak, DeMichele boasts a .379 average (11-for-29).

HAWKINS HEALING Dash outfielder Courtney Hawkins, the top prospect in the White Sox system, has hit safely in six of his seven games since returning from the disabled list (left shoulder). Hawkins boasts a .308 average (8-for-26) with three homers and 10 RBIs. He has struck out 10 times, but five of his seven games have featured zero or one strikeouts after leading the minors with 45 whiffs in his first 23 games (84 at-bats).

BECK, CURLEY, FARRELL NAMED TO ASG Righty Chris Beck, shortstop Chris Curley and third baseman Jeremy Farrell will represent the Dash in the 2013 California-Carolina League All-Star Game in San Jose, Calif., on Tuesday, June 18. Beck is sixth in the CL with a 2.79 ERA. Curley is in the top eight in the league in average, homers, RBIs, hits and runs. Farrell, who claimed the CL's Topps Player of the Month award for May, paces the circuit with 42 RBIs.
