EARLY DEFICIT BURIES DASH AT BC

Buies Creek jumped on Winston-Salem early and never looked back on Tuesday, as the Astros snapped the Dash's five-game winning streak with a 9-6 win at Jim Perry Stadium. The Astros went work against Dash starter Luis Martinez in the opening frame, plating four runs against the Dash righty. A two-run homer from Jacob Meyers in the second upped the lead to six. The Astros would ultimately make it 9-1 contest going into the eighth before Winston-Salem made it a game of it. The Dash scored three times in the eighth, a frame that included a solo shot from Yeyson Yrizarri, and then plated two runs in the ninth inning before Yohan Ramirez buckled down to wrap up the win.

DASHING AROUND THE LEAGUE

Thanks to their 8-2 run over the last 10 games, the Dash still rank first in the Carolina League in runs (600), hits (1,079), doubles (227), triples (40) and RBIs (568). Meanwhile, the ballclub ranks second in the league in batting average (.274) and on-base percentage (.344). On the mound, Winston-Salem ranks third in the circuit in ERA (3.58) and fourth in the league with 951 strikeouts.

AWARD-WINNING PERFORMANCES

Dash outfielder Luis Gonzalez and left-hander Kyle Kubat have been named Carolina League Player and Pitcher of the Week for August 6-12, respectively. Gonzalez went 7-for-17 across five games during the week, smacking three doubles and two home runs. Meanwhile, Kubat tossed a career-high seven innings on August 7 against Myrtle Beach and allowed no runs.

HOLY PROSPECTS

Winston currently boasts nine of the top prospects in the White Sox system per MLB Pipeline on its active roster, including infielders Nick Madrigal (No. 4), Gavin Sheets (No. 15) and Laz Rivera (No. 28), outfielders Luis Robert (No. 3), Blake Rutherford (No. 7) and Gonzalez (No. 14), and right-handers Alec Hansen (No. 10), Tyler Johnson (No. 23) and Lincoln Henzman (No. 30).

FIFTH-BEST IN THE MINORS

CHASING HISTORY

With 21 games left in the regular season, Winston-Salem has an opportunity to clinch the best record in the Dash era (2009-present). The best mark in the franchise's history was set in 2012 when the Dash went 87-51-1. To surpass that mark, Winston-Salem will need to go 17-5 or better the rest of the way. The 2012 team included current big leaguers such as Yolmer Sanchez, Chris Bassitt and Marcus Semien.

A POSSIBLE PLAYOFF PREVIEW

The Dash continue their three-game set against the Buies Creek Astros at Jim Perry Stadium on Wednesday. Despite Winston-Salem's one-game lead over Buies Creek, the Astros are up seven games on Carolina for a playoff spot due to the Dash's first-half championship. Winston-Salem is currently 8-7 against its Southern Division foe. The Astros are led by their strong pitching staff, which leads the Carolina League in ERA (3.09) and strikeouts (1,086).

DASH DOTS

As a starter, Kubat is 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA in five starts this season...Madrigal is currently riding a five-game hitting streak, during which he has recorded exactly one hit in each game.
