Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WOODBRIDGE, VA (MAY 13, 2013) - The Winston-Salem Dash avoided a four-game sweep at the hands of the Potomac Nationals thanks to a dominant 7-0 win at Pftizner Stadium Monday night.

Starter Bryan Blough (2-4) gave the pitching staff a much-needed boost after the Dash (17-19) had given up 19 runs in the series' first three contests. Blough twirled seven shutout innings while scattering five hits and striking out a season-high eight, turning in his best effort since he took a no-hitter into the sixth on April 27 against Wilmington.

Blough got plenty of support from the Winston offense. After striking out five in two spotless innings to start the game, Nationals' starter Robbie Ray (3-2) started the third with a walk to Mark Tracy, and the Dash would take advantage. With the bases loaded later in the frame, an infield single off the bat of David Herbek plated Tracy, and a Chris Curley sacrifice fly brought Martin Medina around to put the Dash up 2-0.

The Nationals (20-17) would replace Ray with Christian Meza, who allowed Winston to double their lead in the fifth. Yoandy Barroso led the inning off with a single, stole second and then went to third on a bunt single by DeMichele.

Following a Curley single, Kevan Smith drove one to deep center field but was robbed of a home run on an excellent play by the Nats' Michael Taylor. The Dash picked up their fourth run later in the inning when DeMichele and Curley executed a double steal, and an errant throw on the play allowed DeMichele to score.

Winston-Salem's offense was not done yet. In the fifth, Tracy lined a single to start the inning and tallied the Dash's fifth run of the game when Herbek continued his big series with an RBI single. The single gave Herbek three runs batted in on the night and five in the series.

The final Dash runs of the night came in the ninth. Mark Haddow led the inning off with a double and came home on a sacrifice fly by Tracy. Medina then put an exclamation point on the night, hitting his first home run of the year down the line in left.

The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark Tuesday night when they begin a six-game homestand with the first of a three-game set against the first-place Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Myrtle Beach will start righty Luke Jackson (4-1, 1.72 ERA), while Winston-Salem's starter has yet to be announced. Coverage begins at 6:45 with the Pregame Dash, and first pitch is set for 7.

The Dash expect to reach their one millionth fan at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday, May 16. On the night the Dash reach this milestone, one lucky fan will have be given a chance to win one million dollars. Visit wsdash.com to purchase tickets for this historic event.
