THE HILLCATS: Beat the Carolina Mudcats 11-4 yesterday...RHP Greg Ross earned his first win for the Hillcats in his second start of the season since getting the call from Low-A Rome last week...He held the Mudcats scoreless through five innings, before allowing three in the sixth...3B Emerson Landoni and 2B Ross Heffley both had three hits in the game...Landoni drove in three runs, while Heffley scored twice...The Hillcats have now won three in a row...They are 19-15, in first place in the Northern Division...
VS. CAROLINA: The Hillcats are 3-0 against the Carolina Mudcats this season...The Mudcats are the last team the Hillcats needed to face to complete their circuit of the Carolina League...Carolina currently owns the league-worst record at 13-23...Last year, the Mudcats took the season series 11-9...They won six of the first eight meetings with Lynchburg...
RUN SUPPORT: Lynchburg has scored 30 runs in the last three games this weekend in Zebulon...That's their highest three-game output on the season, surpassing the 29 runs they scored April 6-9...The Hillcats were coming off a series in Myrtle Beach where they scored just six runs and were swept 3-0...Myrtle Beach owns the best ERA in the league (3.26), meanwhile Carolina's in now the worst (4.37)...The Hillcats more than doubled their monthly home run total this weekend already...They blasted four in the first eight games of May, and then hit four Friday night, and one more Saturday, bringing the total to nine...
SAVE SOME FOR MOORE: RHP Navery Moore starts tonight for the Hillcats...He has received the second fewest run support of any Hillcat starter this year at 2.7 runs per game...RHP James Hoyt, who has only made two starts has less at 1.5 runs per game...Moore has made seven starts and owns a 6.69 ERA...He only has one "tough-luck" loss despite the lack of support...He lost while giving up just one run in six innings April 11...He also has a nasty pattern going so far this season...In odd numbered starts (1,3,5,7) he owns an 11.65 ERA, but in even numbered starts (2,4,6) he boasts a 2.00 ERA...Tonight is start number eight...
NEW SEASON-HIGHS: Lynchburg drew 10 walks yesterday, setting a new season-high...Overall the 'Cats are sixth in the league in walks...Carolina seemed to be especially wild yesterday, as they set a new 2013 high with four wild pitches...OF Matt Lipka scored three times for the first time this year...Had scored twice five times...Earlier in the series, OF Will Skinner scored three runs Saturday (season-high, matched career-high)...2B Ross Heffley had his first three-hit game of the year Saturday, and did it again yesterday...And, C Luis De La Cruz drove in two runs Saturday, after having just one RBI in his first 15 games...
DUECES: The Hillcats have 13 doubles this weekend against the Mudcats...Their season total is now up to 78...Carolina is the next closest team at 69...The Hillcats lead the league in extra-base hits as well with 115...Salem is next with 108...Lynchburg is the only team in the league slugging over .400 at .413...
LANDONI LIGHTING IT UP: INF Emerson Landoni has hit safely in six of his eight starts this season between Double-A Mississippi and Hi-A Lynchburg...He started the year on Lynchburg's DL but was activated and sent to Mississippi two weeks into the season...He hit a pinch-hit three-run homer in his first at-bat of the year April 23...Through 10 games, he batted .348 (8-for-23) for the M-Braves...Now back with the Hillcats, he is hitting .538 (7-for-13) in four games...Has appeared at second base, shortstop, and third base for both Mississippi and Lynchburg this season...
HEFFTY HEFFTY HEFFTY: 2B Ross Heffley went 3-for-4 yesterday, extending his current hitting streak to four games, and collecting his second three-hit game in a row...Batting .471 (8-for-17) during the streak lifting his average from .171 to .230...It's his second four-game streak of the season, as he has a hit in eight of his last nine starts...He's currently batting .370 (10-for-27) in May after hitting just .167 (10-for-60) in April...Yesterday was also the first time he turned in back-to-back three-hit efforts in his career...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Nick Pasquale makes his first Advanced-A start tonight for the Mudcats, filling in for RHP Joseph Colon who was scratched from the start...Pasquale was selected in the 20th round of the 2012 draft by the Indians out of Diablo Valley College (CA)...Made his debut with Short-season Mahoning Valley June 19, 2012 (2ip, 1h, 0r, 3k)...Also pitched for Rookie-level AZL Indians and Low-A Lake County...Made 17 total appearances, four starts (4-1, 3.58)...Began 2013 back with Lake County...Went 0-0 with a 2.18 ERA in nine appearances, one start...Made his first start of the season last Wednesday (5/8)...Tossed four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, while striking out three...Season-high is 4.1 innings pitched this year, in relief April 20...The Walnut Creek, CA native originally went to Saint Mary's College where he threw just two-thirds of inning in 2011...Transferred to Diablo Valley (JuCo) in 2012, where he posted a 1.88 ERA in 110 innings...Was committed to attend North Carolina State before deciding to sign with the Indians...
