New York Islanders prospect Reece Newkirk recorded a four-point night to help lead Portland to a 4-3 win against the reigning WHL Champion Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday night. The Hawks extend their point streak to five straight games.
Portland's offense capitalized twice in the first period as Newkirk scored on the team's first power play of the night and Seth Jarvis roofed a backhander in the final two minutes of the frame to jump out to a 2-0 lead heading in to the intermission break.
During the eighth minute of the second period, Prince Albert cut the lead in half, but the Winterhawks quickly responded with another goal on the man advantage. Jake Gricius tipped in his first power play marker of the season to re-establish a two-goal margin.
The Raiders trimmed the lead to one goal twice in the third period, but the Winterhawks held on to beat the Raiders 4-3. Portland is now a perfect 4-0-0-0 on the season with two wins coming at Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the Moda Center.
Next up, the Hawks travel to Spokane for a 7:05 p.m. game on Friday night.
