(QUEBEC CITY, Quebec) - The Rockland Boulders watched their three game winning streak come to end thanks a to 9-7 defeat at Quebec on Tuesday night. The Boulders (24-18) mustered multiple comebacks but were unable to hold their late inning lead in the loss.

Early scoring continued to be the Achilles heel of Rockland pitching as Greg Terhune allowed two runs in the first. After Tim Smith brought in a run on a ground out, Mike Provencher would later score on a balk. The Boulders cut the deficit in half in the third as Matt Nandin launched his first home run of the season to lead off the inning off Kyle Regnault. Quebec (21-22) would regain their two-run lead when Balbino Fuenmayor singled home Smith in the bottom half.

It would again be Nandin helping to bring the Boulders back in the top of the fourth. Marcus Nidiffer doubled with one out and advanced to third on Junior Arrojo's ground out before Nandin's RBI single made it a 3-2 ballgame. Les Capitales once again pushed the Boulders back as Sebastien Boucher drove in a run in the bottom of the fourth before tacking on another run in the sixth.

Trailing 5-2 heading into the seventh, Rockland took advantage of relief pitcher Chris Cox. It began with a Jerod Edmondson double and continued two batters later when Stephen Cardullo singled him home. A hit batter and a walk loaded the bases with one out, setting up Arrojo who drove in two runs with a single to tie the game. The Boulders then took a lead thanks to an error from Provencher at second base.

Terhune walked the leadoff batter of the seventh before Alex Kreis came on in relief to try and keep the lead. However, Les Capitales had other ideas and immediately struck for two runs. Kreis struck out Fuenmayor to begin his outing but gave up an RBI double to Asif Shah that knotted the contest at 6-6. Quebec took the lead back on Rene Leveret's single in the seventh before adding two more in the bottom of the eighth.

Rockland again tried to make a comeback in the ninth. Cardullo doubled to begin the frame and later scored on Nidiffer's sacrifice fly to right. Unfortunately, that would be all the Boulders would get as Jay Johnson closed the door to give Quebec the victory. Kreis (1-2) was saddled with the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in two relief innings. Cox (1-2) got the win for Les Capitales by holding Rockland to four hits, three earned, on three hits in his two innings. Johnson earned his first save of the season allowing run in the ninth.

Rockland and Quebec resume their series on Wed., July 9 as the Boulders look to force a rubber game on Thursday. The loss, paired with New Jersey's win over Trois-Rivieres, dropped the Boulders back into second place in the Can-Am League. Rockland sits half a game behind the Jackals in the standings.
