Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

FARGO, ND- The last time the Gary South Shore RailCats ventured out on the road from US Steel Yard they lost their first three games getting swept at Kansas City. A short stay at home last weekend broke up the 13 of 16 away from home but unlike last time out the RailCats completed a sweep of their own beating Fargo-Moorhead 2-1 Thursday afternoon in North Dakota sending their winning streak to four games.

The RailCats used their standard recipe of solid starting pitching behind their opportunistic offense in the win. Dustin Crenshaw worked into the eighth to pick up his sixth win of the season. Crenshaw allowed only one run and he got that out of his system early for the South Shore.

The RedHawks took the lead on a solo homer from Nic Jackson in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0 with two outs off of Crenshaw. From there Crenshaw settled in and at one point he retired 13 in a row before the bullpen was called on in the eighth.

The RailCats tied the game on an unearned run in the top of the second when Adam Humes reached on a two base error by short stop Zach Penprase. With Humes at second Drew Muren drove in the tying run with two outs on a single to center off of Fargo-Moorhead starter Jake Laber. The RailCats would take the lead in the fifth again with two outs. With Zac Mitchell at second Ryan Babineau came up with the go ahead RBI on a single off of Laber down the right field line and it was 2-1 RailCats.

Crenshaw left the game in the eighth with two outs and a pair of Red Hawks on at first and second. Kevin Brahney came in a got Nic Jackson looking at a called strike three to end the threat. In the ninth Ethan Gibbons came in for the Cats and he struck out C.J. Retherford for the first out of the inning. Ronnie Bourquin then doubled to put the tying run in scoring position. Gibbons then got Petey Paramore looking at a called strike three for out number two.

RailCats skipper Greg Tagert then brought in Chuck Fontana to face Erik Castro in a "lefty lefty" matchup. Fontana was able to get Castro to fly to center for out number three and a 2-1 RailCats win. The RailCats have now won four straight with Dustin Crenshaw going to (6-4) on the season while Jake Laber saw his record slip to (6-4). Fontana earned his 3rd save of the season for the South Shore.

The road trip continues Friday as the RailCats open a three game series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes in Cananda. RHP Stephen Hiscock (5-4, 4.12) will go for Gary while RHP Chandler Barnard (3-0, 3.38) will go for Winnipeg. Airtime on WEFM and online at RAILCATSBASEBALL.COM is at 6:40PM with first pitch at 7:00PM from Shaw Park.
