Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

FARGO, ND- The Gary South Shore RailCats won their third straight game on Wednesday night, defeating the Fargo-Moorehead RedHawks by a score of 6-3.

The Cats got off to a nice lead early on, wasting no time against RedHawks' starter Taylor Stanton. Danny Pulfer led the game off with a double two batters later Zac Mitchell drew a walk. Craig Maddox drew another walk for the Cats, bringing Wally Backman up with two outs and the bases loaded. Backman delivered with a bases clearing double, giving the Cats a 3-0 lead.

Josh Romanski led off the fourth inning with a base hit. After he was retired at second when Ryan Brockett hit into a fielder's choice, Drew Muren walked to put runners at first and second. Pulfer followed with a three run shot to help bust the game open, putting the Cats up 6-0.

The RedHawks finally got to Cats' starter Morgan Coombs in the fourth inning after Coombs had escaped bases loaded jams in the second and third innings. C.J. Retherford drove in Sawyer Carroll and Travis Higgs with two out single, cutting the Cats' lead to 6-2.

The RedHawks made things interesting in the eighth off the Cats' bullpen as Petey Paramore led off with a walk and Eric Castro followed with a base hit. Dusty Robinson also singled, loading the bases with nobody out. Travis Higgs singled to left field and Paramore scored in front of Castro, who was thrown out at the plate by Muren for the first out. Carroll popped back to Chuck Fontana for the second out and Greg Tagert then brought Barry Fowler into the game. Fowler, in his first day as a member of the RailCats, induced a groundout to end the inning and escape a jam, retaining a 6-3 lead for the Cats.

James Parr closed the door in the ninth inning to record the save for the Cats, retiring the RedHawks in order. Morgan Coombs earned his fifth win of the season and the save was the second for Parr.

The RailCats will look for the sweep tomorrow afternoon before leaving for the three game set in Winnipeg. Dan Vaughan will have the call for the 12:30 start with an online only broadcast at railcatsbaseball.com.
