Winning Streak Ended at Five

ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana-The five game winning streak for the Edinburg Coyotes was snapped as they lost to the Alexandria Aces 10-2 Monday night at Bringhurst Field. After taking three out of four games against Laredo, the Aces turned their sights on the Coyotes, who are 1-9 against them this the season. Alexandria struck first and never looked back as Bryan Sabatella started the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff home run to left field. The Aces added two more runs in the inning which gave them a 3-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Aces opened up the game against James Mondesir (0-2), who took the loss. Sabatella hit his second home run of the game to extend the Aces lead to four. The Aces were not done after the solo bomb, though. They added four more runs on two hits and got some help with two errors by the Coyotes which extended the lead to 8-0.

In the fifth inning, the shut out ended for Chad Linder as Eric Gonzalez started the inning with a double. After moving over to third on a single by Brandon McConnell, Gonzalez came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Mayobanex Santana for their first run of the night. McConnell also came in to score on a throwing error by Aces shortstop Rafael Ozuna which made the score 9-2. The Aces added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run by Palmer Karr Jr. which took the score to 10-2. Linder, former University of Texas Pan American pitcher, got his fourth win of the season after pitching eight innings and allowing one earned run on five hits and striking out 11.

The Coyotes and Aces will continue their three game series Tuesday night at Bringhurst Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Eric Montoya (7-2) will match up against Alejandro Martinez (4-1) in game two of the series.
