Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

ONE GAME AT A TIME

Don't count out the Edinburg Coyotes just yet.

After winning five straight games, four off their ULB rival Harlingen WhiteWings, the Coyotes find themselves only one game behind the Laredo Broncos.

The Broncos are holding on to the fourth and final spot of the ULB playoffs. But due to a four game losing streak that the Broncos endured from the Coyotes (1) and the Alexandria Aces (3), in what was a five game lead on July 12 is now only one.

Although the Coyotes are tied in the loss column (33) with the Broncos, they're one game back because they still have two games to make up with San Angelo.

None the less, Coyotes are now in a tight playoff race with Laredo and have rallied behind a solid pitching staff that has finally seemed to be finding their mark. Having been in fifth place in the month of June, the team ERA is now in third place overall with a respectable 5.26.

Coyotes' manager Vince Moore told me and Dan Elizondo that he is extremely excited to see his team starting to come around. But he still knows that the season is still nowhere near over and strongly believes that "the season is simply not a sprint but a marathon race". He also told a local TV station that this was a great opportunity for the team to make up ground but also not overlook Harlingen.

The Coyotes came through.

But Edinburg and Laredo will be put to the test this series when each team will be taking on two of the best teams in the league.

Coyotes begin a three-game series today in Alexandria as they take on the first place Aces. The Aces seem to have had the Coyotes number throughout the season possessing an 8-1 record against Edinburg. Not to mention, Aces have been dominating the month of July having a 13-4 record. But in baseball, numbers don't matter. After today, the Coyotes begin the top of the rotation starting with ace Eric Montoya and following with the "Mad Scientist" Aaron Guerra. Both players are in the top 10 for pitching in the league along with reliever Bryan Heaston.

The Broncos will stay at home to take on the second place San Angelo Colts. The Colts are 7-3 in the last 10 games and have already clinched the second seed in the ULB playoffs.

Edinburg is definitely on the right track to proving all doubters wrong but will still need to keep the same intensity and drive if they want a shot at the ULB championship.
