Lexington County Blowfish News Release

Gastonia, N.C. (May 28, 2015) - Resilience was the name of the game on Thursday night as the Lexington County Blowfish extended their winning streak to three games with an 11-7 victory over the Gastonia Grizzlies.

The Blowfish held leads of 2-0 and 8-2 during the course of the game. To make things interesting, however, the Grizzlies rallied back with a five-run bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 8-7. Blowfish pitching had dominated up until that point, keeping the Grizzlies as off balance as they had been the night prior in the Blowfish's 6-2 win.

Gastonia's rally started with base hits from Blake Edwards and Jeremy Howell. Blake Hamilton (University of Georgia) forced a strikeout of Dalton Skelton, and Anthony Dimino grounded into a fielder's choice. However, the Grizzlies strung together four hits with two outs that sliced the lead to one.

That rally would fall short, however, as the offense picked right up after that point.

Jared Williams

Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) did most of the heavy lifting offensively with three RBIs on the night. His two-run single in the seventh inning that scored Tyler Lancaster (Spartanburg Methodist) and Austin Garcia (Bethune-Cookman) helped pad a strong lead.

Lancaster followed up that performance with a two-run single of his own in the next inning. J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion) scored easily, and Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina) took advantage of an error on the throw home to hustle in and score.

It was part of a streak of nine runs scored by Lexington County in the final three innings.

Heath Holder (University of Georgia) provided five solid innings of work, getting out of jams in the first and second innings. After that point, he sat down the Gastonia lineup in order, striking out five in a row in the process.

Now winners of three straight games, and alone at the top of the West, the Blowfish will return home for a five-game homestand at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. They will welcome the Fayetteville Swampdogs and the Martinsville Mustangs. Both games will feature spectacular postgame fireworks shows.
