"Home" Improvement Needed For HiToms, Copperheads
May 28, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
High Point-Thomasville HiToms News Release
For both the High Point-Thomasville HiToms (0-2) and their Wednesday night (5/28) opponent Asheboro (Copperheads: 1-1), the early stages of the 2015 Coastal Plain League campaign have made one thing glaringly clear: improvement at home is desperately needed if both Western Division squads hope to enjoy a successful summer slate.
Taking care of their respective business in front of the home town faithful has long been a staple of both Asheboro and High Point-Thomasville (case in point: the two teams combined to post a 31-24 mark in friendly territory last season).
While the 2015 sample size is still small in scope, the two CPL Western Division neighbors have each dropped their home openers (Asheboro to Holly Springs on Tuesday, High Point-Thomasville to Florence last night at Finch Field) in the lead up to tonight's first of 12 regular season matchups between the two familiar foes.
While the Copperheads were able to keep within shouting distance of Holly Springs on May 26th in a 2-5 loss to the Salamanders at McCrary Park, the HiToms weren't as fortunate on Wednesday evening as they fell victim to an early Florence salvo (six of final 10 Redwolves runs came in second, third innings) en route to a five-run defeat.
Grant Schreiver proved to be the lone bright spot for the HiToms last night as the Louisville Cardinal product picked up a solo home-run blast in the bottom of the fifth frame on his way to compiling a 2 AB, 2 H, 2 R, 2 RBI stat line.
Asheboro will enter tonight's action with High Point-Thomasville fresh off a 14-2 romp of the Martinsville Mustangs at Hooker Field on Wednesday night. The Copperheads racked up 17 hits and 11 RBI in the runaway victory as five players recorded multi-hit outings.
Tonight's first pitch at McCrary Park in Asheboro is set for 7:05 PM. Streaming audio coverage of the soon-to-be familiar tilt is available via CPL WebPass.
