The Abilene Prairie Dogs, one of the two new clubs in the Southern Division of the North American League, came to town Thursday and were treated rather shabbily by the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings -- by the score of 12-2 -- in fact.

The WhiteWings, again showed pitching strength, but they were also heavy at the bats, with 16 hits, in the game at Harlingen Field It also was the fourth consecutive win for the home club.

The WhiteWings biggest inning was the fourth, when seven players cross home plate. In the frame, the Wings had five hits, including three consecutive blasts, and three passes on bases on balls.

Those hits came off the bats of L.L. Barroso. Mario Mercedes, Nick Lazendorf, Bryan Marquez and James Mays.

Luis Chirinos, of the the few returnees from the 2011 southern division championship club, pitched a jewel of a game. In seven innings, he gave up one run on four hits. The Wings have given up just three runs in the last three games.

The two clubs meet on Friday in the second game of the three-game series, on Fly Away Friday. Gametime is 7:05 p.m.

Also, Friday, Bark at the Park, when fans can bring their leashed canines to the game. No charge for the dogs.
