Roadrunners Take Advantage of Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners took advantage of three errors in the first four innings to defeat the McAllen Thunder 4-3 Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The Roadrunners (5-5) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI sacrifice fly from Carlos Hereaud that scored Stantrel Smith from third making it 1-0.

McAllen (2-8) tied things at one in the top of the second on an RBI ground out by Luis Blanco that allowed Nathan Tomaszewski to score.

The Thunder took the lead in the bottom of the third with RBI singles by Antoin Gray and Gianison Rosa that made it 3-1 McAllen.

Fielding errors in the bottom of the fourth helped the Roadrunners grab the lead. After Osiel Flores reached on a walk, he moved over to third and came in to score on a couple of fielding errors. With the bases loaded, Vincent Blue hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Tim Battle to score. Hereaud then followed with an RBI single that scored Stantrel Smith that gave Edinburg the 4-3 lead.

That would do it for the scoring as both bullpens would not allow a run. Aaron Tullo, Paul Koss and Julio Castro combined for three and a third of scoreless relief. Castro pitched the ninth for his second save of the season giving Edinburg the 4-3 victory.

Ryan Smith (2-0) picked up his second win of the season after allowing three on five hits in five and two-thirds pitching. He struck out five.

Brian Murphy (1-1) took the tough loss after pitching six and two-third innings and allowing three runs, none of which were earned.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the third game of their four-game series Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Miguel Martinez (0-2) is expected to face Baron Short (0-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
