
Wings Weekly: Nickelodeon Night Raises over $8,000 for American Cancer Society

Kalamazoo, MI.- The Kalamazoo Wings (3-2-0-0) hosted Nickelodeon Night on Saturday night raising over $8,000 for the American Cancer Society through a post-game jersey auction. The K-Wings kick off one of the busiest weeks of the regular season as the team plays four games in six days, with three at home.

Education Day:
The K-Wings will hold their annual Education Day game on Tuesday morning, with puck drop set for 10:30am. Over 4,000 students of all ages will be in attendance as the K-Wings host Toledo.

Shelling Out for a Good Cause:
On Saturday night the K-Wings auctioned off special Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle jerseys, worn that night, after the game generating just over $8,000 for the American Cancer Society. A donation of $8,002.25 will be made to the American Cancer Society in the coming weeks.
Tight Games:
On Friday night the K-Wings went past regulation for the first time this season, topping the Cyclones 4-3. Last season Kalamazoo went past regulation on 13 occasions. Ten of those games ended in the overtime period, Kalamazoo was 6-4, while the remaining three were decided in a shootout. Through the first three weeks of the season, 22 of the 27 teams in the ECHL have played past regulation.
Career Firsts:
Friday night was a big night for rookie Matt Joyaux, as the defenseman not only made his professional debut, but also recorded his first career point as well as fight. Joyaux joined the K-Wings after completing a collegiate career at Ohio State. In addition to Joyaux, forward Zach Diamantoni also notched his first pro point with an assist on Friday as well. The rookies were the 14th and 15th players to get a point for the K-Wings this season.
Stingy Defense:
Kalamazoo is currently allowing the fewest shots of any ECHL team through the first three weeks of the season. The Wings are giving up only 26.60 shots per game this season. Atlanta is a close second, allowing 26.67 shots per game. Through the first five games the Wings have surrendered 30 or more shots only twice. In comparison, Kalamazoo surrendered 32.60 shots per game last year.
