WHEELING, WV -- Ryan Nie made 30 saves to lead lead the Kalamazoo Wings to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Wheeling Nailers in game five of the Eastern Conference Finals played at WesBanco Arena Sunday evening. Kalamazoo now leads the best-of-seven series 3-2.

The Wings scored their first goal, when Trent Daavetilla centered a feed to a wide open Darryl Lloyd in the slot. Lloyd switched to the backhand and was able to beat Peter Delmas for the goal.

Kalamazoo received a four-minute power play as Paul Crowder was called for a double-minor for high-sticking. The Wings controlled the zone for nearly two minutes, before Justin Taylor was able to slip behind a defender who was without a stick, and score the power play goal on the shortside post, extending the lead to 2-0.

After a quiet and scoreless second period, the Nailers came out into the third with a buzz and threw several good scoring chances at the net of Ryan Nie. However, Nie would stop them all, leading the way for two more insurance goals by the Wings. The first of those goals was actually the second by Lloyd who once again beat Delmas on the backhand to extend the lead to 3-0.

Kalamazoo made it 4-0 on the power play, as A.J. Thelen ripped a slapshot into the net from the point at 9:42 of the period. Nie made the saves the rest of the way to seal the 4-0 victory, and earn his first shutout of the postseason, stopping all 30 shots faced. Delmas takes the loss after making 27 saves on 31 shots faced.

The two teams will meet again in game six on Tuesday at Wigs Stadium in Kalamazoo. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. Fans may tune in to The Mix 97.3, www.wheelingnailers.com, or watch the game on RTV9.
