August 29, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Philadelphia Wings News Release
The Philadelphia Wings indoor lacrosse team selected forward Sean Greenhalgh from Cornell University as their first pick (3rd overall) in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft held at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta. With their two additional first round picks, the Wings selected forward Luke Wiles (4th overall) from the University of Delaware and defenseman Chad Thompson (9th overall) from the Barrie Lakeshores of the Ontario Lacrosse Association.
"With three first round selections in a draft so deep with talent, I've been looking forward to this day all summer," said Wings General Manager Lindsay Sanderson. "Both Greenhalgh and Wiles are proven players and Thompson really came into his own this summer in Barrie. With the added bonus of picking up a proven scorer like Self from Colorado and a collegiate star like Kyle Harrison, we've been able to significantly strengthen our team today."
The Wings traded a second round pick (16th selection overall) to the Colorado Mammoth for forward Brad Self. Self has acquired 69 points (25G, 44A) during his three NLL seasons. The 5'11", 185 pound forward was selected in the second round (18th overall) in 2001 entry draft by the Buffalo Bandits. Self was also on 2004 Mann Cup championship team as a member of the OLA's Peterborough Lakers.
Philadelphia also selected Kyle Harrison in a second round pick (22nd overall) acquired through a trade for 2004 All-Rookie Team defensemen Andrew Burkholder. Harrison was the winner of the 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy, which is awarded annually to the nation's top collegiate player. The 6'0", 185 pound midfielder was co-captain of the Johns Hopkins University squad that captured the 2005 National Championship.
Philadelphia traded their sixth round pick (61st overall) to Toronto in exchange for Toronto's sixth round pick in the 2006 Entry Draft.
