Minnesota Swarm selects five players in 2005 NLL Entry Draft

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm selected five players tonight in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft at the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta. Minnesota selected forward Nolan Heavenor in the second round (17th overall) from Limestone College (NCAA Division II), defenseman Nate Andres (37th overall) and forward Tyler Perry (38th overall) in the fourth round from the Whitby Warriors of the Ontario Junior 'A' Lacrosse Association, forward Dean Hill from the Spartan Warriors of the Ontario Junior 'B' Lacrosse Association and defenseman Mike Leong from the Surrey Stickmen of the British Columbia Junior 'A' Lacrosse League.

The Swarm also acquired forward Ryan Painter and the Toronto Rock's third round pick in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft in exchange for its third round pick (23rd overall) in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft. Painter, 28 (8/17/77), notched 19 points (8-11=19) and 25 loose balls in eight games with Toronto in 2004. He scored 66 points (45-21=66) in 16 games during his rookie campaign with Ottawa in 2002.

Heavenor, 23 (5/30/82), collected 71 points (42-29=71), 180 loose balls and won 214 of 298 (.728) face-offs taken during his senior season with Limestone College. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound forward ranked first on the team in loose balls and face-off percentage, third in scoring and was named to the Deep South All Conference First Team. The Victoria, British Columbia-native also tallied 28 points (16-12=28) and 29 penalty minutes in 12 regular season games with the Victoria Shamrocks of the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) this summer.

Andres notched 17 points (9-8=17) in 22 games with the Whitby Warriors of the Ontario Junior 'A' Lacrosse Association this year.

Perry, 21 (5/22/74), recorded 67 points (35-32=67) in 22 games with Whitby this season. He ranked first on the team in goals and scoring, tied for first in assists and tied for seventh in the league in scoring.

Hill tallied 80 points (41-39=80) in 20 games with the Spartan Warriors of the Ontario Junior 'B' Lacrosse Association this year. He led the team in scoring and ranked fifth in the league in goals and seventh in scoring.

Leong collected seven points (3-4=7) in 19 games with the Surrey Stickmen of the British Columbia Junior 'A' Lacrosse League.
