Wings lose Brzeski and Spano in expansion draft

Philadelphia Wings' lose defenseman Rich Brzeski and defenseman Jeff Spano who were chosen in the National Lacrosse League's expansion draft that took place today. Brzeski was chosen in the fifth round (10th overall) and Spano was chosen in the seventh round (14th overall) both selections made by New York.

"Jeff and Rich have been an integral part of our franchise over the past couple of years," said Wings General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "We wish both players continued success in their playing careers and appreciate the contributions that both have made to our franchise."

Chicago Shamrox Coach / General Manager Jamie Batley and New York Head Coach / Interim General Manager Adam Mueller each selected eleven unprotected players, making a total of 22 selections. No team lost more than two players. For a full list of Chicago and New York's picks log on to www.nll.com

Brzeski, a New York native, acquired 8 points (1G,7A) in five seasons with the Wings. The Rutgers University graduate was drafted in the seventh round (60th overall) in the 2000 NLL Entry Draft. In 2005 Brzeski spent most of the season on the injured reserve list with a torn ACL.

Spano, a Malvern, PA native, acquired 82 points (22G, 60A) and recovered 293 loose balls in five seasons with the Wings. The Drexel University graduate was signed as a free agent by Philadelphia prior to the 2002 season.
