Edmonton Rush News Release

EDMONTON, AB-The National Lacrosse League held its' Expansion Draft today for the expansion teams in New York (name to be announced) and the Chicago Shamrox.

The Rush is very familiar with the procedure as last year it was their day to build its' team and make history. However, today, the Rush faced losing two players.

New York selected the Rush's forward Tyler Heavenor and the Chicago Shamrox selected the Rush's 2005 sixth round draft selection Kyle Dupont. Heavenor played 8 games with the Rush in the 2006 NLL season. Dupont did not play with the Rush last year.

Each expansion team had the opportunity to select up to eleven players from the rosters of the existing NLL teams. The Chicago Shamrox had the first selection in the Expansion Draft. New York won a coin flip between the two expansion clubs, and was given the choice of selecting first in either the Expansion Draft or the 2006 Entry Draft. New York chose to select first in the 2006 Entry Draft, giving the Chicago Shamrox the first pick in the Expansion Draft.

Existing clubs were able to protect up to fourteen players on its roster from the Expansion Draft. Clubs may either protect one goaltender and thirteen of its runners (forwards/defenseman/transition players) or two goaltenders and ten runners. During the Expansion Draft, once a player is selected from an existing club, the club is then allowed to protect one of its remaining unprotected players. No team can lose more than two of its' players in the Expansion Draft. Once two players from a club have been selected, the club's remaining unprotected players are no longer available in the Expansion Draft.
