TORONTO - The Toronto Rock lacrosse club, winners of five National Lacrosse League championships, lost D Darryl Gibson (Toronto) and F Matt Taylor (Whitby) in today's NLL expansion draft.

The Chicago Shamrox selected Gibson third overall, while Taylor was selected 18th by the expansion New York franchise.

The Chicago Shamrox and the to-be-named New York team began building their rosters today in the 2006 Expansion Draft. Chicago used the first overall selection on San Jose goaltender Brandon Miller, while New York selected forward Pat Maddalena from Arizona. In the second round, the Shamrox picked up veteran defenseman Darryl Gibson from Toronto, and New York added Calgary goaltender Curtis Palidwor.

Each of the eleven returning teams have submitted their lists of protected players to the league. Each team was allowed to protect a maximum of fourteen players, consisting of one goaltender and thirteen runners (forwards/defensemen), leaving at least nine players from their current 23-man roster unprotected and therefore available in the Expansion Draft.
